About the role

As a Transport Officer, you will help ensure safe, reliable and cost‑effective transport arrangements for children, young people and adults. You’ll assess needs, plan suitable transport solutions and work closely with families, schools, colleagues and transport providers.


Responsibilities

* Plan and organise transport allocations within agreed timescales and standards.
* Assess transport needs and complete route optimisation and contract adjustments.
* Analyse and record route, financial and contract data accurately.
* Provide clear advice to stakeholders and respond to enquiries and complaints.
* Prepare assessments, contract documents and support tender processes.
* Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues where required.
* Contribute to project work and share knowledge to support team development.


Our Communities Directorate

Our Communities directorate works across the county to deliver a number of key customer‑facing services that residents, businesses and visitors rely on every day.


Services we deliver

* Collecting and disposing of waste and recycling
* Maintaining roads, Rights of Way network and parking
* Ensuring the delivery of school transport and supporting sustainable travel, including public bus services and School Crossing Patrollers
* Managing Country Parks
* Leisure facilities, museums, theatres and libraries, and developing our Cultural Strategy
* Licensing, Environmental Health and Trading Standards
* Cemeteries and Crematoria


Qualifications

* Experience in a fast‑paced high‑demand transport service area, preferably in the public sector.
* Ability to understand and correctly apply policies to case‑work decision making.
* Excellent communication skills to work with stakeholders, including parents, schools and council colleagues.
* Experience managing contracts delivered by outside contractors.
* Ability to analyse operational issues and deliver timely solutions.

Due to increased transport planning workload before the start of a new academic year, the role has a leave embargo from early August through to the middle of September, during which time leave cannot be taken.
