The successful candidate will work under the indirect supervision of a registered nurse, delivering high standard care in a safe environment that meets the patients’ needs, whilst maintaining privacy and dignity. The Healthcare Assistant will work as part of the MDT alongside a team of GPs, Nurse Practitioners and other HCAs; to support the smooth running of the Primary Care service, aiding the clinical team and providing advice and care to patients whilst developing new skills. The successful candidate must have previous Healthcare Assistant experience in primary or secondary care.
This is a part-time job; hours and days will be discussed and agreed during the interview.
The job holder will have to (among others):
1. Work with nursing and medical teams in providing a proactive management of patients with chronic disease according to local strategies
2. Support the nursing team in Healthcare Assistant duties such as dressings and clinical observations
3. Conduct new patient and NHS health checks
4. Participate in the development and implementation of service/CCG guidelines and protocols.
5. Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory
6. Measure and record the following physiological measurements in routine presentations:blood pressurepulse rate and rhythmtemperatureheight and weight - body mass indexvenepunctureECGglucose tolerance testpeak flow readingsinhaler techniquespirometry
7. Undertake spirometry under indirect supervision
8. Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
9. Ensure clinical rooms are appropriately stocked and ready for use at the start/end of the working day
10. Assist regulated professional while patients undergoing minor surgery
11. Assist with LARC fitting as required
12. Undertake dressing procedures following local recommendations and using aseptic techniques
13. Plan, develop and implement health promotion activities as appropriate e.g. smoking, exercise and diet
14. Assess patients readiness to change and provide motivational support as appropriate in cases of smoking, obesity and healthy living for older people
15. Administer the influenza, shingles and pneumococcal vaccine under indirect supervision of a regulated professional, ensuring PSD’s are obtained and used for each patient
Essential criteria:
16. Have a NVQ level 1 Healthcare qualification
17. Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant in primary care/secondary care is required
18. Prior experience in minor illness
19. Appropriate Venepuncture / Cannulation Training
20. Work productively in a high pressured environment
