As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in building and growing teams. This role suits someone who is passionate about integrating environmental input within the Planning process. A Chartered Town Planner, and the role forms part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team.
As part of our Environmental team, you'll help improve quality of life. Your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, especially in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

We are addressing climate change, urbanization, loss of biodiversity, and increasing large-scale events like floods and wildfires. You will work on diverse projects, including large-scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water, defense, mixed-use developments, public realm, and masterplanning projects, as well as smaller projects requiring agility. We promote technical excellence, digital innovation, and a flexible, collaborative environment. You will play a key role in delivering multidisciplinary projects across the UK and worldwide.
You will also be responsible for:
* Leading recruitment, growth, overseeing bidding and project delivery, and managing key clients
* Coordinating and delivering planning/environmental work with multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development, and optimizing environmental and planning outcomes
* Supporting business development through market activities and client engagement
* Raising awareness of our services, winning new opportunities, and building contacts
* Engaging with stakeholders and consultees
* Managing projects, overseeing technical, quality, commercial, and safety performance
Qualifications & Experience:
* Strong knowledge of the UK Planning system, consenting process, EIA practices, case law, and environmental principles
* Experience across various project types
* Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills; experience reviewing others' work
* Leadership in multidisciplinary project coordination and management
* Experience negotiating with authorities, regulators, and stakeholders
* Commercial acumen, including forecasting and quality assurance
* Relevant degree, preferably Chartered or working towards it
* Flexible, pragmatic, collaborative approach
* Experience with DCO/TWAO/Hybrid Bills delivery
