Hours: 30 hrs per week (work pattern to be discussed, to cover 4 or 5 days, Mon-Fri)
We are currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Physiotherapist to join our multidisciplinary team at St Columba's Hospice Care. As a Physiotherapist, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for our patients through the provision of specialised physiotherapy interventions. You will work closely with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans that promote physical comfort, mobility, and independence for patients facing life-limiting illnesses.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical conditions, functional abilities, and mobility limitations.
2. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop personalised care plans tailored to the specific needs and goals of each patient.
3. Provide evidence-based physiotherapy interventions to manage pain, breathlessness and fatigue, improve mobility and function, and enhance overall physical well-being and quality of life.
4. Utilise a range of treatment modalities such as therapeutic exercise, electrotherapy (TENS), respiratory care, and provision of equipment as appropriate.
5. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to optimise patient outcomes.
6. Educate patients, their families, and caregivers on safe and effective techniques for managing physical symptoms and improving comfort.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant records.
8. Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing your expertise to develop comprehensive care strategies and where appropriate, discharge planning from the in patient unit.
9. Collaborate with colleagues and external healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and a seamless transition for patients, when needed.
10. Stay informed about the latest advancements in palliative care and physiotherapy through continuous professional development.
Qualifications & Experience:
11. Degree in Physiotherapy from a recognised institution.
12. Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
13. Proven experience as a Physiotherapist, preferably within a palliative care or similar setting.
14. Knowledge of pain management techniques, functional ability enhancement strategies, and therapeutic interventions.
15. Excellent assessment, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
16. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
17. Compassion, empathy, and sensitivity in dealing with patients and their families during challenging times.
18. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload efficiently.
19. Commitment to ongoing professional development and a desire to stay abreast of current research and best practices in palliative care and physiotherapy.
