Principal Pharmacist

The Role
To lead, develop, deliver, manage and evaluate clinical pharmacy services in accordance with the objectives agreed with the Chief Pharmacist and in accordance with current national strategy and other key policies for maximising the pharmaceutical profession’s contribution to patient care which may require significant redesign of the methods for delivering pharmacy services.
To take personal responsibility for developing Pharmaceutical Care Services for a specific patient group across NHS Lanarkshire. This requires care to be delivered to in-patients, outpatients and liaison with patients and their carers, and primary care healthcare staff post discharge.
To lead a team of clinical pharmacists to provide similar service developments for patients in their specific area of responsibility across NHS Lanarkshire e.g. acute medicine, renal, HIV & AIDS, care of the elderly and cardiology etc.
What we’ll need you to bring
* Masters of Pharmacy Degree
* Member General Pharmaceutical Council
* Demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge / service provision and development.
* Post Graduate degree/diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Management.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development / management training.
* Minimum 8 years post registration clinical pharmacy experience.
* Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice.
* Can delegate authority appropriately.
* The ability to evaluate service quality.
A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
It would be great if you also have
* Post registration hospital experience.
* Experience in delivering clinical services to specialist patients.
* Experience in managing staff and delegating authority appropriately.
* Independent Prescribing qualification.
Contract type
Fixed Term (1 Year, April 2026 to March 2027)
Part Time – 18.5 Hours. Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro‑ra.
Please note this is a 1 Year fixed term post. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
Location
This role will be based in Pharmacy within University Hospital Wishaw. Whilst this advertisement may be for a specific post(s) in a particular location, applicants who are shortlisted for interview may be considered for similar vacancies in alternative locations.
