Base pay range

The School of Medicine is looking to recruit a Medical ‘Additional Costs of Teaching’ (ACT) Officer (explained in the FPs).

The successful candidate will be a key member of the peer group of Medical ACT officers nationally supporting undergraduate medical education in NHS Boards and GP practices and monitoring NHS resources involved in medical education.

This role has several key stakeholders; The University, NHS Education Scotland and NHS Health Boards. These are described in the Further Particulars. This post is employed by the university and is funded by public monies through Medical ACT funding.

The postholder will play a key role in supporting strategic educational governance, including development, negotiation and finalisation of formal Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with partner organisations. They provide high‑quality secretarial support to high level topic specific Short Life Working Groups and Regional ACT Working groups, fostering effective collaboration between universities, NHS partners and other stakeholders to support high‑quality medical education across the region.

The post produces the annual measurement of teaching activity returns to NHS Delivery, ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timely submission of all data that underpins ACT Funding. Responsibility for development and implementation of robust measurement and reporting processes, engaging with NHS partners to validate activity and resolve complex data issues.

This work is crucial to informing regional and national financial allocations and the postholder will be expected to exercise sound judgement, analytical rigour and senior level influence.

The successful candidate will have to be an effective communicator, confident in engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across the university and health board settings. This role will suit a diplomatic and credible professional, who is resilient and can challenge constructively while maintaining trust. The candidate must be adaptable and proactive, navigating different priorities and perspectives, whilst seeking shared outcomes between academic and healthcare environments.
