JOB TITLE: Technical Support & Applications Engineer
REPORTS TO: General Manager
Place of Work: Office Based – St Helens, Merseyside with Onsite Work
Industrial Power Systems is a supplier of Control & Protection Equipment to the Marine, Power Generation and Oil & Gas markets. They represent a number of manufacturers from Europe and North America.
Position
BECOME THE EXPERT
The role of a Technical Support Engineer at Industrial Power Systems typically involves providing technical assistance to customers, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the optimal performance of their products and systems.
Responsibilities
* Customer Support:
o Provide technical support to customers via phone, email, and on-site visits.
o Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of products.
o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to energy producing systems and products.
* Technical Assistance:
o Analyse and diagnose technical problems reported by customers.
o Offer solutions and advice to improve the performance and reliability energy producing control and protection systems.
o Provide guidance on product usage and best practices.
* Product Knowledge:
o Become the “expert” on a range of products.
o Maintain a deep understanding of products, including hardware and software components.
o Keep up-to-date with the latest product developments and updates.
* Documentation:
o Create and update technical documentation, manuals, and guides for customers.
o Document troubleshooting steps and solutions for common issues.
* Training:
o Conduct training sessions for customers and internal staff on DEIF products and systems.
o Develop training materials and presentations.
o Work closely with manufacturers engineering teams to provide feedback on product performance and customer needs.
o Collaborate with sales and project teams to support pre-sales activities and project implementation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Technical Expertise:
o Strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems, especially related to power control and automation.
o Experience with DEIF products or similar power control systems.
* Problem-Solving:
o Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
o Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
* Communication:
o Strong verbal and written communication skills.
o Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
* Customer Service:
o Ability to handle stressful situations and manage customer expectations.
* Education:
o A formal qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
o Relevant experience in a technical support or engineering role.
* Additional Skills:
o Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA systems, and other industrial automation technologies.
o Knowledge of networking and communication protocols used in power control systems.
Working Conditions
* The role may require travel to customer sites for on-site support and training.
* The job can involve working under pressure to resolve critical issues and ensure customer satisfaction.

* 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
