The role
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play an integral role in supporting a strategic long-term partnering contract with the MOD and help shape our vision for the future, providing commercial expertise to achieve the best commercial position for Babcock.
Day-to-day, you’ll act as a senior leader in the Commercial function, providing guidance to the team to create a commercially viable support solution that is fit for the future.
1. Provide commercial expertise and governance to internal stakeholders (finance, project teams, supply chain and senior management) in the development of proposals and functional reviews, processes, policies, and commercial risks.
2. Be confident and competent when interacting with stakeholders and work to develop positive customer relationships in order to represent the company to negotiate scope, terms, and price.
3. Develop innovative and pragmatic commercial solutions in a dynamic environment.
4. Promote and maintain compliance with commercial policies, processes, and procedures with the bid team.
5. Lead in the identification of contractual risk, quantification, and mitigation strategies.
This role is full time, thirty-seven hours per week and is adaptable and can be delivered from various locations including Bristol or Plymouth. Also, please note that this role requires regular travel across a range of internal and customer sites as required, alongside home working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Senior Commercial Manager
6. Extensive experience in contract and bid management, ideally gained within the UK Defence market.
7. Extensive knowledge of commercial terms and types of agreements.
8. Experienced in UK MOD contracting methods and strategies
9. Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Deadline driven to meet critical internal governance and customer timelines, with good attention to detail.
Qualifications for the Senior Commercial Manager
10. Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Engineering, Business, Law or Accountancy, but not essential.
11. Professional memberships of WCC (World Commerce and Contracting)
