Carlisle Support Services is now seeking a dedicated Duty Security Manager to join the team at Coventry University. The role requires rotating day and night shifts over a weekly period, working an average of 42.5 hours per week – 4 days, 4 off, 4 nights. Pay rate: £17.20 per hour.
The Duty Security Manager will manage the Front Line Protection provision at Coventry University and serve as the operational point of contact and service delivery while on duty. Responsibilities include overseeing the Management and deployment of Protection staff, directing operations in the control room, ensuring compliance with contracted services, and acting as the point of contact for emergency incidents.
Duties
* Maintain documentation and records required for an efficient Protection service.
* Manage day-to-day operational requirements of the University Control Room, including maintenance of radio equipment and communications.
* Coordinate and direct emergency incidents (theft, assault, fire, accident, business continuity, etc.) and comply with the University’s call‑out procedures.
* Oversee the electronic patrol system and operate an Incident Reporting system.
* Respond to the University’s emergency phone line and take appropriate action.
* Monitor and record CCTV activity, maintaining activity logs.
* Manage control measures related to body‑worn cameras and door access systems/cards.
* Monitor personal attack alarms and support Protection personnel as needed.
* Complete duty and activity logs and associated documentation.
* Maintain University IT logging and reporting systems.
* Maintain communication with local police and emergency services.
* Offer advice, support, and guidance to University staff and students on Protection matters.
* Serve as an out‑of‑hours welfare provision for students.
* Provide direct first‑line management of the contract.
* Ensure Health and Safety inspection and audit requirements are met.
* Conduct regular audits of service performance.
* Deliver crime prevention and fire awareness initiatives.
* Supervise investigatory CCTV follow‑up, obtaining evidence for prosecution or disciplinary action.
* Supervise administrative processes within the control room.
* Maintain fault listings for control‑room equipment.
* Deliver one‑to‑one training to all staff.
* Champion the University SafeZone app, managing data analysis.
* Adhere to Coventry University procedural documents from the Office of the Head of Protection Services.
* Aim to exceed expectations.
Qualifications and Requirements
Formal qualification as a “Train‑the‑Trainer” and a minimum of a PTLLS or equivalent accredited qualification is required. Additionally, the participant must be formally qualified and accredited at Level 3 as an instructor through the NFPS (or a suitably agreed alternative) for Control and Restraint and Breakaway techniques (Physical Intervention).
* SIA Door Supervision licence.
* SIA CCTV licence an advantage.
* Full UK driver’s licence with at least 2 years of driving experience and fewer than 6 points.
* First aid at work is an advantage (3‑day course); training will be provided to the right candidate.
* Minimum 5 years of checkable work and address history.
* Reliable, punctual, flexible, and professional appearance.
* Friendly, approachable, enthusiastic, and motivated.
* Some experience within a security environment or a customer‑facing role.
* Effective people skills and ability to interact positively with clients and colleagues.
Successful candidates will be required to provide original documentation for detailed screening and vetting processes, including passport, driving licence, recent utility bill, HMRC letter, bank statement, payslip, birth certificate, or valid share code.
