Job Title: Locum Consultant in Haematology
Location: North Yorkshire, UK
Rate: £110 - £125 per hour. PAYE only
Contract Type: Locum (short-term and long-term assignments available)
Start Date: Ideally 30th March for 2 months initially, but ongoing
Details: Monday - Friday 0900-1700 + x1 evening on call (16 hrs) alternative weeks + 1:7 weekends on call (sometimes more)
Normally cover on a 2nd site is required on Thursdays every other week.

About the Role
As a locum Consultant in Haematology, you'll provide expert care and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services.
Responsibilities
10. Provide expert clinical care for patients with malignant and non‑malignant haematological conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
11. Lead and manage haematology clinics, including new patient assessments, follow‑up reviews, and treatment planning.
12. Oversee inpatient care on the haematology ward, offering senior clinical decision‑making, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary input.
13. Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing specialist opinion on diagnosis, management, and treatment pathways.
14. Interpret and report specialist haematological investigations, including blood films, bone marrow aspirates/biopsies, and coagulation studies.
15. Support the delivery and governance of transfusion services, including management of complex transfusion cases and advice to clinicians.
16. Provide on‑call haematology cover (as required), offering urgent advice for bleeding, clotting disorders, haemato‑oncology emergencies, and transfusion issues.
17. Contribute to safe prescribing and monitoring of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other haematological treatments in line with local and national guidelines.
18. Supervise and train junior medical staff, specialist nurses, and other members of the haematology team.
19. Ensure accurate clinical documentation, coding, and communication with GPs and referring teams.
20. Participate in clinical governance activities, including audit, incident review, morbidity/mortality meetings, and quality improvement.
21. Engage in service development to support pathway improvements and maintain high standards of patient care.
22. Maintain compliance with professional revalidation requirements and uphold the standards of the GMC and relevant specialty bodies.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
23. MBBS or equivalent medical degree
24. Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
25. A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or PVG check - or a willingness to undergo one as part of the registration process
26. UK Right to Work
27. Strong communication and teamworking skills
Desirable:
28. CCT in Haematology (or within 6 months of achieving it)
