Senior Lawyer – Enforcement and Prosecution – 32501
The diverse nature of environmental crime provides ever‑evolving challenges. Our Enforcement and Prosecution teams provide advice and conduct enforcement and prosecution cases, including civil sanctions and formal cautions, and training on disclosure requirements and statutory enforcement powers.
You will own a caseload, protect the environment and contribute to a national organisation that offers a good work‑life balance, a salary pension scheme and professional development.

Responsibilities
Provide high‑level, accurate, timely legal advice and support. Deliver quality legal casework and progress procedural issues. Manage caseload autonomously, including criminal and civil proceedings, challenges, transactional and other matters, and represent the Environment Agency.
Qualifications
Qualified solicitor, barrister or equivalent (FILEX with rights of audience in criminal proceedings). Experience as a prosecutor or defence lawyer handling complex criminal cases concerning breaches of environmental legislation. Sound knowledge of criminal law, practice and procedure. Experienced criminal advocate with trial experience in the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court. Ability to advise on civil sanctions and regulatory responses.
Benefits
Senior Lawyer roles receive a G6 Market Forces Factor allowance of £5,250 per annum. Home working combined with contractual office base, travel to court and locations as required. Home working with office attendance based on business needs.
