A vacancy has arisen within Leicestershire County Councils in house passenger fleet team to join us in the role of transport supervisor.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and legally compliant passenger transport services for predominantly SEN home to school transport and Adult Social Care for the benefit of the people of Leicestershire
About the Role
As a transport supervisor you will have the skills to manage and lead a dedicated County wide team of drivers, escorts, and contingent workers in accordance with agreed performance standards. Providing front line day to day supervision to ensure all operational aspects of the Passenger Fleet operate effectively and efficiently.
This includes assisting the Team Manager and Transport Managers with employee selection, recruitment, induction, training and development, attendance management, monitoring and disciplinary procedures.
In addition, you will also be responsible in ensuring that our health and safety responsibilities are met for both staff, passengers, and depots (building).
The nature of the work will involve the jobholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours.
Currently the team operates a rota covering the staff helpline during the hours of 6am to 6pm, this is shared on a rolling basis with other transport supervisors.
This post is based in County Hall, but the nature of the work requires the jobholder to carry out work at different locations (depot and school sites) around the County (including at peak school times) and therefore will need access to a car for work purposes.
This post is classed as a Safety Critical Post and is therefore subject to random Drugs & Alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. A copy of our Substance Misuse Policy and Procedure is available upon request.
A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

About You
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject area
* Experience of supervising a remote and mobile workforce
* Co-ordinating and processing information
* Working with more senior members of staff in delivering progress updates and reports
* Development and implementation of work programme
* Resolving work related problems and implementing appropriate solutions
* Confident in the use of Microsoft Word and have developed skills in Microsoft Excel
* Working to tight deadlines, in a peak time pressurised environment. Able to use own initiative in planning & prioritising own workload
* Ability to work well within a team
* The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post
* A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle is also required
* You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion
