Digital Infrastructure Operations Manager
The Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit an experienced Digital Infrastructure Operations Manager.
The Digital Infrastructure Operations Manager will be accountable for monitoring all core IT systems and services across the RSFT estate. They will implement workarounds and initiate disaster recovery plans while permanent fixes are being sought by resolver groups. RSFT IT aims to be more proactive than reactive; thus, this role plays a vital part in that effort. The role also requires flexible working, including early start times and late finishes as needed, to ensure coverage from 8am to 5pm.
As the subject matter expert for technical infrastructure and disaster recovery, this role will develop, implement, and manage the IT and Trust-wide disaster recovery plans, understanding their impact on clinical workflows and organizational resilience. As healthcare increasingly relies on digital solutions, the importance of robust disaster recovery processes grows, and this role will be crucial in advancing the Trust's maturity in this area.
Main duties of the job
The Digital Infrastructure Operations Manager will provide 24x7 IT management, serving as the point of contact for Trust-wide senior management, Site Nurse Practitioners, and operational/support staff during Serious IT Incidents and Major Incidents. They will lead and coordinate incident responses, contributing to the Trust’s business continuity, disaster recovery, and risk management structures. The role includes owning and managing the IT Major Incident process and procedures related to Digital Infrastructure outages.
The manager will act as the key interface between clinical and infrastructure staff during IT incidents, working closely with the Senior SNP (Site Nurse Practitioner). They will provide managerial support for internal staff and external service providers out of hours, leading technical response teams as necessary. Clear, accurate, and timely communication is essential, along with overseeing all steps of incident management, root cause analysis, and reporting for remediation.
An important aspect of this role is to lead cultural change towards improved cybersecurity and resilience outcomes.

Job responsibilities
The Digital Infrastructure Operations Manager will monitor all core IT systems across the RSFT estate, implement workarounds, and lead disaster recovery efforts. They will need to be closely aligned with SNPs, with appropriate system access, and may be required to work across multiple sites. The manager will ensure health and safety guidelines are followed and oversee onsite IT staff management. As the SME for infrastructure and disaster recovery, they will develop and oversee plans, ensuring organizational resilience, especially as healthcare becomes more digital. They will also communicate security practices and embed security principles into the Trust’s culture.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Masters level qualification in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience with specialist training in disaster recovery and business continuity
* ITIL Foundation Qualification
* Management qualification or equivalent experience
* ITIL Lifecycle Service Operations Qualification
* Prince 2 Project Management Certification or equivalent
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Membership of professional organizations (e.g., ITSMF, BCS)
* Membership of the Business Continuity Institute
Knowledge
* Extensive experience in IT Infrastructure Operations Management
* Experience managing IT Serious Incidents in complex environments
* Experience working under pressure
* Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity methodologies in large organizations
* Experience developing and managing business continuity and disaster recovery plans
* Experience as a single point of contact and in lone working scenarios
* Managing IT disciplines across multiple sites
* Motivating teams in complex environments
* Using Service Management tools
* Managing external service providers
* Knowledge of ITIL Service Management Lifecycle and best practices

Salary: £64,337 to £74,415 per annum (including high-cost area supplements).
