Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Maternity Services team in a key Quality Improvement role. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of Maternity Services, supporting the development and delivery of complex, high‑value projects aligned to Maternity Patient Safety priorities and Quality Improvement programmes. Responsibilities
Work closely with the Maternity Senior Team, clinical teams, and wider organisational stakeholders to support the implementation and delivery of improvement projects across services. Embed quality improvement methodology, promote best practice, and support sustainable service development across departmental and organisational boundaries. Play a pivotal role in supporting and championing the UHB Quality Improvement Programme using the Model for Improvement framework, working alongside local change champions to develop, implement, and monitor improvement projects. Transfer knowledge of improvement tools and best practices to colleagues involved in project delivery. Qualifications & Experience
Educated to Degree level; Master’s level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent training/experience in project management (PRINCE2, APMG or equivalent). Training or experience in quality improvement techniques. Experience implementing a wide variety of improvement projects using formal methodologies within large public sector organisations, preferably in an acute NHS setting. Experience in risk, issue and project change management, and in building credible project plans, identifying activities, resources, timescales, milestones and critical paths. Experience using and implementing a wide range of quality project management tools, templates and techniques. Evidence of effective facilitation skills and stakeholder management. Knowledge of the NHS Constitution, the Trust vision, values, and strategic objectives, and the current change agenda. Additional Criteria
Coaching others in developing improvement skills. Strategic thinking and evaluation of longer‑term impact of proposals. Data analysis to inform improvement efforts and demonstrate impact. Strong communication and presentation skills to diverse audiences. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing conflicting priorities. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Facilitation skills to support service redesign projects and achieve measurable outcomes. Honesty, reliability and trustworthiness. Respectful treatment of patients, visitors and colleagues. Willingness to travel between Trust sites. Strong energy and enthusiasm. Desirable
Lean or similar methodology and project management experience. Advanced problem‑solving skills and creative thinking. Knowledge of tools such as RACI charts and process mapping. Benefits
Salary: £57,528.00 to £64,750.00 per year (Agenda for Change Band 8a). Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time, flexible working. Location: Trustwide (Mindelsohn Way, Birmingham, B15 2TH).
