A fantastic opportunity to join our friendly outpatient teams that covers main OPD at PRH/RSCH/Hove and Lewes. You will part of our small but close teams who pride themselves in providing a high standard of care to our patients, families and carers.

We are looking for an experienced nurse with a clear vision on how a practice educator can help standardise care across sites & ensure staff are fully competent and trained. You will need to be able to lead with care & understanding to create a shared purpose and help the team feel supported & cared for.

You will be part of a team responsible for driving outpatients forward. The successful candidate will be offered a supportive and friendly working environment with the chance to develop further.

The Practice Educator is an important team member that works with all the main Outpatient teams to help create a cohesive, evidence based work force who all receive the same training through standardised practice and teaching

Please note you do not have to have outpatient experience

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

To identify and promote evidence based nursing practice within Outpatients through the implementation and facilitation of clinically based teaching / education, ensuring that staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles competently.

Lead on orientation and competency programmes, a development programme for new nurses that incorporates theoretical teaching, clinical skills assessment & formulation of personal development plans.

Facilitates the professional development and education of all members of staff in a positive learning environment.

As educator for outpatients the post holder will undertake audits and assist with the development of professional policies, standards & best practice guidelines.

The role also involves representing the Trust at local level. The post holder works without direct supervision.

You will be expected to spend 50% of working time in the clinical setting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communication

1. Work collaboratively with all outpatient areas to promote cohesive, consistent practice and share resources, ideas & knowledge
2. Be an expert in skills related to outpatients, effectively interpreting and communicating specialist information to colleagues and patients where appropriate
3. Have excellent interpersonal, communication and team skills, able to liaise with patients and relatives, networking with other healthcare professionals and specialists, interpreting and sharing detailed and complex information
4. Maintain accurate and relevant clinical notes and documentation on patients. Ensuring confidentiality and adherence to the Data Protection Act is maintained, full and accurate records of relevant information is documented
5. Network with practice educators across the Trust, attend practice development meetings and forums, disseminate information to all staff.
6. Works with each nurse manager to develop training for each area and provide regular feedback
7. Supports managers in complex decision making relating to student placements & staff competencies including fitness to practice
8. Provides constructive feedback on performance and supports line managers with HR requirements.

Service Delivery and Improvement

9. To foster the philosophy of evidence based practice, analysing, interpreting and implementing research findings, to ensure effective and innovative nursing practice
10. Participate in auditing the clinical education environment, in conjunction with the Nurse Managers and the University of Brighton
11. Implement changes where necessary, maintain accurate data & staff training records.
12. The post holder is required to participate in the Trust appraisal process and work towards meeting identified development needs.
13. Assist in the general recruitment of staff and in particular the recruitment of staff for educational programmes.
14. The post holder is required to demonstrate on-going continuous professional development.
15. Ability to write new competencies and research what is needed ensuring the correct procedure for Trust approval has been followed.

People Management and Development

16. Assist in development and implementation of education strategies across outpatients in order that staff are equipped with the right skills, ensuring that practice is standardised across sites
17. Work on own initiative to undertake a wide range of duties relating to Outpatients, backed up by professional skills and knowledge, including being able to respond in the event of an emergency situation
18. Provide informal/formal teaching sessions for staff & colleagues, explaining and demonstrating outpatient principles and practical skills related to each outpatient area.
19. Use a variety of methods (eg simulation, technology enhanced learning and traditional) to deliver education, adjusting accordingly to learner needs, preferences & neurodiversity where possible.
20. Implement annual study days specifically for Outpatient staff that help meet the needs of the service and develop staff.
21. Supervise the maintenance of the statutory and mandatory training required by nursing staff working in all departments and ensure accurate date records are maintained according to Trust policy.
22. To work within the NMC Code of Conduct and adhere to health and safety legislation.
23. Help create a culture which motivates, enthuses and empowers others to give their very best and challenges behaviours which fall short of those expected.
24. Undertake assessment of practice and mentorship of nursing on pre and post - basic education courses. Provide clinical supervision, highly specialist advice and assessment of competence in clinical practice
25. Preparation and delivery of teaching sessions
26. Use initiative and discretion to manage workload independently
27. To be accountable within Trust policies and procedures.
28. Provide feedback and educational counselling to all staff and support staff in relation to their appraisal, professional and personal development; assist staff in formulating personal development plans and portfolios
29. Provides constructive and motivational feedback to learners; using coaching, mentoring and advice to staff to support career development
30. responsible for staff training in the use of key equipment in the Outpatient environment.

Patient Care Delivery

31. Provide highly specialist Outpatient care to patients during all stages of the appointment process, understanding the 18 week pathway and referral to treatment time
32. Act as a resource for staff in outpatients, offering coaching, support and guidance to all staff. This role demands expert knowledge, gained through extensive clinical experience, together with theoretical study at a minimum of post-registration level
33. Act as a role model both educationally and clinically, ensuring standards are met in clinical practice.
34. Be highly skilled and dextrous, working with technical and complex equipment and machinery eg monitors, bladder scans, fibroscans, heart monitors
35. Have the technical expertise to act as a trainer for medical devices and equipment, training all staff to ensure safety and competence in practice
36. Maintain own clinical skills through working in practice
37. To be responsible for the professional and operational delivery of high quality clinical care standards ensuring that patients are always treated with dignity and respect.

Learning and Development

38. Attend mandatory training updates as required.
39. Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process.
40. Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
41. Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager
42. Participate in the Trust’s appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service.
