About the Opportunity
Are you looking for a rewarding career in pensions administration? Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a Pensions Coordinator to join our dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and a understanding of pension schemes.
As Pensions Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating the delivery of services to both current and potential members of the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme and Local Government Pension Scheme. Your responsibilities will include liaising with pension scheme administrators, managing member data, ensuring accurate reporting, and providing guidance on pension matters.
Key Responsibilities
1. Liaison & Coordination: Work closely with the West Yorkshire Pension Fund (WYPF) and the County Council Pension Scheme to ensure smooth operations for both Firefighters’ and Local Government pension schemes.
2. Data Accuracy: Ensure that member data, payroll submissions, and pension scheme records are accurate, timely, and compliant with relevant regulations.
3. Member Support: Act as the first point of contact for pension enquiries, providing professional advice and support to members and potential members.
4. Pension Documentation & Procedures: Review, update, and maintain pension-related documentation, ensuring that processes within the Service are efficient and compliant.
5. Audit & Reporting: Develop and maintain accurate audit trails for all pension records, ensuring information is readily available when required by relevant bodies.
6. Collaboration: Work alongside HR, Payroll, and Finance teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date data, and assist with pension-related calculations for key projects such as the McCloud and Sargeant Age Discrimination Remedy Projects.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Experience:
7. Proven experience in a Payroll or Finance environment.
8. Educated to A-Level standard, with GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C or above.
9. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
10. Analytical, methodical approach with a high attention to detail.
11. Experience in policy development and the ability to interpret complex legislative information into clear, actionable formats.
Desirable Skills:
12. Understanding of public service pension schemes, specifically Firefighters’ and Local Government Pension Schemes.
13. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other IT tools.
