Job Description
We are looking for an urban drainage advisor with sewer hydraulic modelling experience. This role is part of the national Water Quality Regulatory Development team in the Water Regulation directorate.
As an urban drainage advisor you will apply your experience of building and using sewer hydraulic and modelling tools to inform guidance and assure programme delivery. You will work proactively with Environment Agency teams and external organisations, lead the development of audit processes for water quality investigations, co‑develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM), respond to technical queries and coach staff.
Responding to incidents is a central part of this role. You may choose to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. Additional payment may apply.

Key Responsibilities
* Develop audit processes for water quality investigations under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act.
* Co‑develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM) and respond to technical queries.
* Lead the application of sewer hydraulic and modelling tools to inform guidance and assure programme delivery.
* Coach and develop staff on sewerage and water quality investigations.
* Respond to incidents or provide business continuity support when required.
* Collaborate with dispersed teams across the country to embed new approaches and processes.
Qualifications
* Relevant degree in civil engineering, geography or environmental science (or equivalent with relevant professional experience).
* Experience of sewer modelling and/or river quality impact modelling for UPM studies, including model audits.
* Knowledge of environmental planning and regulatory frameworks for Water and Sewerage Companies.
* Excellent organisational and coaching skills; ability to embed new approaches into business.
* Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with internal and external customers.
