UNSW Rural (Port Macquarie campus) delivers the full 6-year medical course at rural clinical campuses. Face-to-face teaching supports rural program delivery and community engagement. The role focuses on education in biomedical sciences and laboratory management within the undergraduate medical course at the RCC.

This Job is based in Australia.


Employment details

* Employment Type: Part–time, 21 - 28 hours a week (0.6 – 0.8 FTE neg)
* Duration: Fixed Term contract until 30th June 2027
* Remuneration: Academic Level A or Level B $91,381 - $127,947 per annum, (dependent upon experience) pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
* Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.
* Location: Port Macquarie, NSW


Details of the role

* Position: Associate Lecturer/Lecturer, Biomedical Sciences, Rural (Port Macquarie campus)
* Role type: Education-focused academic role enabling specialists to deliver high-quality teaching and pursue educational initiatives
* Reports to: Director of Medical Education, identified campus
* No direct reports


Responsibilities

* Teach biomedical components of the course (anatomy, physiology, genetics, immunology, biochemistry, histology, pharmacology, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, research methodology and statistics, as required)
* Laboratory management: setup and pack-down, resolve technical issues, maintain equipment, ensure safety and documentation, manage safety records and inventories
* Provide quality technical support to ensure smooth laboratory operations
* Demonstrate interest in rural health education supporting local hospital and community health outcomes
* Maintain laboratory equipment and coordinate servicing and replacement; use UNSW resourcing systems


Qualifications and skills

* An BMed, MBBS and/or undergraduate degree in a relevant medical sciences field, or a PhD with relevant experience
* Active engagement with discipline knowledge, technical expertise, and teaching professional development
* Experience in biomedical sciences teaching with a rural focus
* Knowledge of laboratory management, regulatory compliance and safety management
* Ability to set up equipment, prepare chemical solutions, develop samples and cultures, and mentor students
* Strong ability to maintain laboratory processes and safety procedures
* Ability to maintain and coordinate laboratory equipment servicing


Seniority and additional requirements

* Lecturer (Level B) may include responsibilities for larger/smaller group teaching, teaching excellence and supervision
* Use of information technologies for education, including eLearning
* Strong communication and networking skills; collaboration with students and staff
* Emerging research interest with peer-reviewed publications
