Head of Investigations (General)
Are you a leader with extensive regulatory experience from a professional service or risk-based regulator? Do you have significant law practice experience and excel in decision-making on complex investigations?
We are looking to appoint a Head of Investigations (General) to join our growing Investigations and Enforcement directorate in our Birmingham, Cardiff or London offices.
The role
The Head of Investigations leads teams that investigate reports of serious misconduct, delivering the highest standards in the quality and timeliness of investigations with outcomes that protect the public and uphold high professional standards, providing a credible deterrence for the regulated community. You will contribute to the effective leadership of the Investigations department and the broader Investigations and Enforcement directorate.
Your key responsibilities include leading investigations to meet case handling standards and timely key performance indicators (KPIs). You will ensure high-quality, risk-based decision-making across teams, guided by our enforcement strategy. Additionally, you will enhance technical skills within the team, ensuring top-notch investigations and customer service. Effective team management is also a crucial aspect of this role.

What we are looking for
* Extensive relevant regulatory experience from a professional service or risk based regulator and/or significant law practice experience. If only one present, evidence of strong ability to fully comprehend the other
* Ability to demonstrate a good legal and commercial awareness of the legal profession, with up to date and significant understanding of the external legal, political and economic influencing factors
* Proven experience of decision making and case direction at senior level on complex issues/investigations
* Significant experience of effectively monitoring and driving high standards and continuous improvement in quality and performance across large operational teams
* Outstanding communication skills and ability to communicate effectively internally and externally, including being a credible representative of the SRA.
* Ability to demonstrate energy, confidence and flexibility, in the delivery of change
* Proven experience of operating autonomously and collaborating as part of a functional or cross functional team
* Strong collaboration and influencing skills to develop and implement solutions to complex and challenging issues.

This is a hybrid role and we are recruiting for this role in our Birmingham, Cardiff, and London offices. You will be based in the office nearest to your location, with the expectation of working 2 days a week in the office and the remainder of the week from home. There is a requirement for the successful candidate to be in the Birmingham office one day a week as the team and stakeholders are primarily based in Birmingham.
The starting salary for this role is £65,000. For those eligible, an additional 10% London weighting will apply.
