Regulatory Officer (Process Industry – Installations) - 32222
Job Description
We are looking for a professional individual with science or engineering qualifications and/or relevant experience of working in process industry, to regulate sites operating in a range of industrial sectors including Chemicals, Combustion, Waste Incineration, Food and Drink, Paper & Pulp, and Hazardous Waste treatment.

Your job will require you to work as part of a team and independently to use a wide range of regulatory and enforcement tools:
* Lead site-based audits at industrial sites, assessing data and information to produce accurate and timely written assessments of the operator’s ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources.
* Complete desktop assessments of monitoring data, operational procedures and management systems.
* Influence and negotiate with operators to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels within industry and the local stakeholder communities.
* Where necessary set conditions under which a site may continue to operate and enforce the law should they fail to comply.
* Respond to and investigate environmental incidents and regulatory breaches, to ensure that remedial and enforcement actions are implemented.

Experience / Skills Required
* Relevant scientific/engineering qualifications (degree or equivalent) and/or experience of working in process industry or regulation. You may have, or be working towards, membership of a relevant professional body.
* Experience of environmental regulation and/or enforcement is desirable, but you’ll need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of being a trusted and effective regulator.
* Confident, quick in dealing with complex and fast changing situations adopting a pragmatic approach, achieving the best outcomes for the environment.
* Organisational skills, able to flex and re-prioritise, working across teams to meet our aims.
* Experience of incident management is also desirable, working with emergency responders and other professional partners to prepare and respond to a wide range of environmental incidents including pollution, flooding, drought, and animal disease outbreaks.
