Job Description:
The college sector plays a vital role in providing opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds, and life circumstances to gain qualifications and develop skills that can transform lives and support career progression. It also contributes significantly to the Scottish Government’s ambitions for a more inclusive society and a sustainable, growing economy.
Colleges Scotland is the collective voice for the college sector, representing all 24 colleges in Scotland and one regional body, delivering further education and about a quarter of all higher education in Scotland. It also acts as the employers’ association – College Employers Scotland (CES).
CES is the national representative body for Scotland’s colleges as employers, focusing on national bargaining for pay, terms, and conditions. Recent successes include multi-year pay agreements and the development of progressive policies.
As Director of CES, you will build on these achievements, supporting members in delivering their collective ambitions. You will be the key spokesperson and a national leader, responsible for shaping and implementing strategy, maintaining ownership of, and a proactive approach to, national bargaining. Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders will be central to your role.
As a member of Colleges Scotland’s Executive Team, you will also contribute to shaping strategies and operational plans aligned with broader strategic objectives.
We seek a strategic, solutions-focused leader with strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. Politically astute, you will possess excellent communication skills, capable of conveying ideas persuasively across platforms. A proven negotiator, adaptable and creative in responding to challenges, you will aim to secure successful outcomes.
This high-profile role offers a salary of £79,435 from 1st September 2025, providing an opportunity to make a significant impact for colleges, learners, staff, and communities.
