These challenges need the bold science we support. We are looking for an Epidemics & Epidemiology Senior Research Manager to shape and develop the epidemiology areas of work for infectious disease within Wellcome, with an initial focus on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), delivering impact for patients and communities in the geographies most affected by drug resistant infectious diseases. Where in Wellcome will I be working? The position sits in the Epidemics and Epidemiology team, within the Infectious Disease Strategic Programme, a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering Wellcome’s strategy to address the global health challenge of infectious disease. Our ambitious goal is to accelerate the discovery and development of new drugs, vaccines and interventions through to transforming the lives of people suffering from or at risk of infectious disease. We do this by funding research, product development and policy initiatives and currently focus on: Vector and Water borne infections, TB, AMR, and Neglected Tropical Diseases. What will I be doing? As a Senior Research Manager you will use your expertise in epidemiology, with an emphasis on AMR, to contribute towards the leadership, development and delivery of the AMR strand within the Infectious Disease strategy. You will be responsible for leading on scoping areas of interest, shaping and advancing internal research and development projects and be responsible for a variety of large/complex projects and initiatives. You will be engaging and influencing a wide variety of senior stakeholders within and external to Wellcome, to advance our goals. Beyond focusing on AMR, you will also support our broader epidemiology strands of work across the Infectious Disease strategy in different disease areas and contribute towards Wellcome’s efforts in preparing and responding to future epidemic threats. As an Epidemics & Epidemiology Senior Research Manager, you will: Devise and implement strategic workplans: deliver the agreed outcomes for the epidemiology related AMR strategic area of work and multifaceted programmes of work relevant to the Infectious Disease strategy. Providing critical scientific assessment of applications, participating in decision-making reviews and making clear recommendations to senior management. Leadership : identify and manage larger epidemiology AMR projects independently, acting as the main point of contact and liaising with external stakeholders or partners for the ongoing management and conclusion of major initiatives. Foster stakeholder engagement : effectively use knowledge and expertise to inform and influence internal and external networks to independently seek advice and input from experts as needed. Communicate clearly the work and funding of AMR research activities within the Infectious Disease Area, and the broader infectious disease strategy, to internal and external audiences. Use knowledge and expertise to be a respected and authoritative voice outside Wellcome. Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments. Minimum Criteria: Able to demonstrate a breadth of research expertise in infectious disease epidemiology, epidemics and antimicrobial resistance through relevant work experience in an academic, industrial, funding agency or charity setting. Experience/knowledge of universities, funders and other relevant scientific and research organisations and communities Experience of shaping and delivering research or science related programmes of work in low resource settings Experience/knowledge of managing large projects in an academic or industry setting.
