M&E Inspector - HV/LV, Building Services and HVDC Equipment/Systems scopes
Location: Onshore Converter Station - Norfolk, UK
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 12 months
Rates: All-In Day Rate (Outside IR35)
Working Week: Onsite, 5 days per week, 10 hours per day
Clearance: Proof of Right to Work in the UK
Certifications Required:
Time-served LV/MV or HV Equipment/Systems Inspector with HNC/HND or craft qualification in an Electrical LV/MV/HV discipline
Recognised site supervisor certification (SSSTS, CCNSG Safety Passport - Supervisor, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or similar)
National Grid accredited "Person" and BESC trained
IT proficiency - MS Office (Teams, Outlook, etc.)
Experience Required:
Extensive experience as a Client Inspector at supervisory level, with strong understanding of installation, fit-out, and testing of electrical transmission and distribution equipment/systems for HVDC technology (preferably linked to offshore wind projects)
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, with a proactive approach
Working knowledge of construction health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly CDM 2015
Minimum 10 years' recent relevant experience supervising major and complex Mechanical and Electrical works in similar substation environments
Scope of Services:
Collaborate with site QA/QC Lead and site team to monitor electrical works performed by contractors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project requirements, specifications, and standards
Liaise with contractor representatives and subcontractors on all electrical installation, testing, and commissioning activities
Engage with client HSE advisors and support team, including CDMC/PD
Participate in regular site meetings (QC inspection look-ahead, QC issues, joint quality walks, NCR reviews, progress meetings, daily coordination)
Prepare detailed reports for the Site Manager or Package Manager as required
Perform surveillance/witnessing of electrical installation, testing, and commissioning works using agreed documentation (including ITPs)
Monitor workmanship quality daily, including housekeeping, operator qualifications, equipment/material traceability
Review documentation prior to commencement of electrical works (ITPs, method statements, specifications)
Verify drawings against design to ensure compliance throughout works
Participate in joint walk-downs, final inspections, and snag identification; follow up on defect corrections
Support site team and package team on technical deviations, site queries, and change requests
Report electrical-related queries and non-conformities for immediate action and escalate as required
Prepare daily/weekly site reports on electrical works
Review installation, testing, and commissioning records progressively and highlight issues for correction
Record activities (inspections, observations) using agreed project tools
Support review of final as-built records for electrical works
Collate discipline-specific lessons learned and share with package team at defined stages and project close-out
Build strong working relationships with stakeholders, including National Grid, EPCI contractor, and subcontractors
Support site safety improvement initiatives delivered by both client and contractors
Familiarise with contracts, consents, leases, designs, health & safety plans, package interfaces, employer requirements, and relevant documentation to carry out the role effectively
