We require one part‑time band 3 medical secretary to work within rheumatology services – there may be potential to be requested to work cross site or within other specialities, subject to service needs.

Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen for one band 3 medical secretary to join the team within Rheumatology, Medical Division.
* Autonomous working but also part of a larger team.
* Extensive secretarial experience in an office environment and preferably medical terminology; role involves large volumes of typing so review of technical typing experience and ability to prioritise conflicting and demanding workloads required.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
* RSA II Word processing or equivalent; good standard of general education with desire to learn new skills and undertake training; experience of EPR systems beneficial as would experience in an NHS setting.
Job responsibilities
Large volumes of administrative duties; single point of contact for patients; EPR, ESR, diary management, telephone communication, patient pathway review; correspondences across two systems; accuracy essential.
Actively work as part of a larger team, support subject to service needs; post, email, cover for colleagues in other services; work closely with consultants & clinicians as well as management; first point of contact for patients, GPs & other Trusts; cover if the situation arises for other services, arrange and minute meetings if required, and any other duties.

Qualifications/Training
* GCSE English and Maths grade 9‑3 (A*-D)
* Accurate keyboard skills to RSA 2 or equivalent.
* Evidence of commitment to organisational and individual development and undertaking all mandatory training where required.
* ECDL/NVQ2 in Business Admin/Customer Service or equivalent.
Knowledge, experience & expertise
* Experience in an office environment.
* Experience of using computer programmes e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook.
* Experience of working to deadlines and targets.
* Ability to organise and prioritise own workload.
* Must have good and accurate inputting skills.
* Experience of audio/touch typing with speed and accuracy.
* Awareness of confidentiality.
* Medical terminology.
* Knowledge of IT software including email, internet, databases, ThinkPads and presentations.
* Experience of working in an NHS environment.
* Awareness of Local and National NHS guidelines.
* Understanding of Trust policies and their impact on service delivery.
* Experience of ESR & EPR systems.
* Experience of facilitating and minuting meetings.
