Material Controller

As a Material Controller, you will participate in our construction projects in the Inverness area and will be in charge of the organization of the construction sites, materials, and equipment. You will be a key member of the project team, responsible for the efficient management and control of all project-related materials, ensuring the construction teams have what they need while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management
· Keep accurate records of all construction materials, tools, equipment, and supplies in the company's inventory.
· Track quantities, monitor stock levels, and conduct regular stock checks.
· Maintain accurate records of all inventory transactions, such as receipts, issues, and returns.
· Keep track of consumption rates and reorder points for essential materials.
Receiving, Storage & Distribution
· Receive deliveries of materials and supplies, check the quality and quantity of items, and verify them against purchase orders.
· Report any discrepancies or damage to the appropriate personnel.
· Ensure all materials are stored in an organized and secure manner, using proper shelving, labelling, and categorization to prevent damage, theft, or deterioration.
· Distribute materials and supplies to construction sites according to project requirements, ensuring the right items are delivered to the correct locations in a timely manner.
Procurement & Cost Control
· Prepare and process purchase orders for materials and supplies as requested by project managers and supervisors.
· Assist in the procurement process by researching potential suppliers, obtaining quotes, and negotiating terms and prices.
· Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
· Assist in controlling costs by minimizing wastage, tracking expenses, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
Reporting & Collaboration
· Generate regular reports on inventory levels, consumption rates, and any issues related to materials and supplies.
· Provide insights and recommendations for optimizing inventory management.
· Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and suppliers to ensure efficient material management and resolve any issues related to supplies, deliveries, or shortages.
Equipment & Safety
· Maintain and manage construction equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working condition.
· Organize repairs or replacements for equipment when necessary.
· Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations when handling hazardous materials or operating equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety standards.
Requirements
· At least 5 years previous experience as a Store Man, in inventory management, or a similar role on construction sites, including organising and logging equipment, organising the storeroom & the yard, carrying out equipment stock takes & placing equipment orders.
· Candidates with strong warehousing backgrounds will also be considered.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Must hold a valid Safepass Card and have knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
· A Manual Handling Certificate is required.
· Strong knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment.
· Familiarity with inventory management software and strong computer skills.
· Strong organizational and communication skills.
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
