Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU is a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. This role provides strategic leadership for financial investigations and ensures compliance with POCA obligations. The role requires proactive leadership, continuous improvement, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
You will manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer. You will lead, motivate, and develop your team and oversee performance and work delivery.
This role is hybrid, with flexibility to work from home and the nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties may be required. Incident response duties may attract additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available to support you.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations and ensure POCA obligations are fulfilled.
* Manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer.
* Lead, motivate and develop the ECU team, managing performance and work delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC).
* Influence at a senior level to ensure EA priorities are recognised by external enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation in improving processes and understanding of POCA; share lessons learned and contribute to changes in technical documentation; advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Understand and apply the National Intelligence Model where applicable.
* Contribute to the development of capability within the team and individuals.
Team and Environment
The ECU consists of two teams – Asset Denial and Money Laundering Investigations – comprising Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and engages with enforcement staff and partners across the country to tackle serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience and Qualifications
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in:
* Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
* Effective communication, delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its individuals
