The Interventional Department at the Countess of Chester are looking for an experienced nurse or odp to lead the IR nursing team, working along side the IR manager, Radiographers, Consultants and support staff.
Chester is the hub for the SMART centre (south mersey arterial treatment centre) and all complex vascular work is performed at Chester from the local area and from both the spoke sites at Arrowe Park and Warrington. We provide an on-call service to patients at Chester and the successful applicant is expected to fully participate in this service out of hours.
IR in Chester perform both vascular and non-vascular procedures ranging from arterial and venous intervention, embolisations, GI stenting, abscess drains, nephrostomies and image guided biopsies.
We have a Radiographer lead PICC team and also have an advanced radiographer practitioner who provides a nephrostomy exchange service, NG/NJ insertions, image guided lumbar punctures.The IR department has recently undergone full refurbishment and extension to include a new theatre with Canon imaging equipment and the space for a second theatre to be installed in the near future.
Main duties of the job You will be accountable as a clinical member to ensure you perform your role in a safe, competent manner within your designated area and provide specialist care to meet the needs of the pre/peri/post-operative patient.
You will be responsible for maintaining effective communication throughout the areas of theatre services and between the medical, nursing, administrative and management staff to provide the best care to patients.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
