Principal UX/UI Designer – 12 month contract (until Dec 2026)

We are Media Molecule, a multi‑award‑winning game developer and a proud member of the PlayStation Studios family. We have a history of creating revolutionary games such as LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway and most recently, the BAFTA Award‑winning Dreams. It’s a fantastic time to join us as we embark on our next adventure, defining and executing the vision for an ambitious new project and settling into our spectacular, newly refurbished studio in central Guildford. We are now searching for a talented Principal UI/UX Designer to join us on a 12‑month contract.


What You’ll Be Doing

* Report into the Associate Design Director and build positive, collaborative and inclusive relationships with all disciplines to ensure consistency, authenticity and brand harmony across all systems and UI/UX.
* Partner with the Art Director, UI and Brand team to develop the UI art direction and assist with the style guide to maintain visual consistency throughout game production.
* Work with leadership and designers to ensure that UX design feature goals are clear, developed and maintained throughout development.
* Represent the UI/UX team in production, managing the roadmap and ensuring all documentation is up‑to‑date and easy to share.
* Define, research and solve analytical UX problems.
* Design, prototype and present user flows from wireframe quality to high‑fidelity outputs.
* Architect technical requirements for features and ongoing design iterations, learning new technology and implementing UI into the engine.
* Maintain a working UI design system.
* Generate and collate assets necessary to complete UI to shipping standard.
* Augment and build the skills and capabilities of the existing UI/UX team.
* Coordinate the creation of the user experience with cross‑disciplinary teams such as audio, narrative and accessibility stakeholders.


Requirements

* Significant experience creating UI/UX within the games industry.
* Expertise with UI/UX design tools, including Figma, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for wireframing and interactive prototyping.
* Comfortable collaborating with strong‑minded, creative teams.
* Excellent creative problem‑solving skills – creating simple solutions to complex problems.
* Demonstrated ability to approach numerous UX features in an agile manner.
* Previous experience mentoring, upskilling and inspiring design team members to excellence.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with strong presentation skills and the ability to convey a vision to non‑art stakeholders.
* Solid grasp of visual design and user interface design principles.
* Proactive, collaborative and self‑motivated.


Plusses

* Prior experience championing user experience design in a small UX team.
* Experience with After Effects and motion graphics.
* Experience working with the Noesis GUI middleware.
* Experience in working with user research teams and usability testing labs.
