This is an entry level position within the laboratory and will involve spending 6 months of the year (April - September) in the Microbiology Section as part of a team ensuring that all Bathing Beach Season (BBS) samples are analysed on time and to the prescribed standards. Outside of the Bathing Beach Season (October - March), the role will be located in the Inorganics Section undertaking routine / non-routine sample analysis for EU Directive reporting, pollution incidents, Commercial Customers and investigative projects. Please note that there are two, distinct working patterns for this role. April to September will require a Tuesday to Saturday working pattern to ensure that all samples are analysed within time constraints, outside of the Bathing Beach Season (October - March), the working pattern will be a standard Monday - Friday. During BBS: Routine analysis of bathing beach water quality samples. This will involve various microbiological processes including preparation & quality control of media, filtration of samples, bacterial colony identification & reporting. Accurate management and upkeep of documentation is also critical to this role. Outside of BBS: Routine analysis and preparation of Inorganic samples. This will involve various processes and techniques including automated analysers and manual meter reading. Management and upkeep of documentation.
