We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Lead to foster a positive environmental culture within the workplace and across the business. This role involves advising, guiding, and mentoring staff from managers to operators on Environmental Management, ensuring compliance with legislative and operational standards. The successful candidate will ensure company policies and environmental requirements are practically implemented, leveraging in-depth knowledge of environmental topics.
The primary responsibility is to work closely with environmental agencies and consultants to ensure the plant's operations comply with all licenses and legal standards.
Main Tasks:
1. Build strong relationships with environmental agencies and ensure compliance with IPPC Permits and operating licenses.
2. Apply ISO 14001 Environmental Standards practically and effectively.
3. Coordinate with monitoring and analytical service providers to ensure corrective actions based on test results (e.g., Legionella control).
4. Maintain environmental consents related to emissions, effluent, and discharges, including plant effluent processes and scrubber systems.
5. Work with waste and chemical analysis companies to ensure proper management and corrective actions.
6. Ensure laboratory operations meet ISO standards (ISO 14001, ISO 9001).
7. Develop centralized waste monitoring programs with KPIs and dashboards.
8. Manage site waste streams safely and cost-effectively, including hazardous waste.
9. Control waste transfer documentation and collaborate with external bodies for waste disposal.
10. Implement systems to protect staff from chemical hazards, adhering to CHIP 2002 and COSHH 2002 regulations.
11. Develop health monitoring systems to comply with REACH regulations.
12. Lead processes for introducing and managing new chemicals and raw materials.
13. Promote a positive HSE culture, including behavioral safety initiatives.
14. Coordinate with Occupational Health providers for onsite health screening.
15. Create and implement emergency response protocols and train incident controllers.
16. Audit waste contractor facilities and maintain waste stream mapping.
17. Report on site pollution, waste transfer, and compliance status to authorities.
18. Maintain and update the significant aspects register for ISO 14001 compliance.
19. Conduct internal ISO 14001 and OHSAS 45001 audits.
20. Generate reports on monitoring data to ensure permit compliance.
21. Monitor and report CO2 emissions, water, and energy usage monthly.
22. Review safety data sheets and update risk assessments accordingly.
23. Investigate incidents and accidents, providing corrective actions.
24. Develop improvement plans for waste and effluent treatment processes.
25. Complete environmental reports and compliance documentation.
26. Engage with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency and HSE.
Job Requirements:
* Over 5 years' experience in an environmental role with responsibilities.
* Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.
* Experience working on a COMAH site.
* Involvement with emergency response teams.
* Trainer certification (Train the Trainer).
* Knowledge of environmental monitoring and waste management principles.
* Excellent PC skills for documentation and system implementation.
* Flexibility to work additional hours as needed.
* Decisive, accurate, creative, and forward-thinking.
* Ability to motivate, persuade, and negotiate.
Qualifications:
* Degree in Environmental or Health & Safety discipline.
* Accredited Lead Auditor ISO 14001/45001.
