Geotechnical Consultant – Stantec
We’re expanding the Geo Division in the South of England (London or Southampton) and need a Geotechnical Consultant. The role involves site investigations, analysis of field data, production of design reports, construction support, and collaboration with remediation teams. You will help develop sustainable solutions and advanced 3D data applications.
We want a candidate with a couple of years of field experience and an appetite for growth.
Job Requirements
* Strong foundation in UK design practices.
* Knowledge of soil mechanics and soil‑structure interaction.
* Experience preparing ground models, design parameters, and professional reports.
* Analytical work on slopes, walls, foundations and other geotechnical structures.
* BEng, BSc, or higher in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or Geology with an MSc.
* Progress toward Chartered Member of a relevant institution.
* Field‑based supervision of ground investigation and construction.
* Client liaison and interdisciplinary coordination.
* Proficiency in Oasys Pile, Alp, PDisp, Adsec, ADC, Rocscience Slide, WALLAP, AutoCAD, and Excel; FE software (Plaxis 3D) a plus.

Geotechnical Engineer – Hybrid (London)
* Produce detailed geotechnical designs for structural retention, basements, and slope stability.
* Develop project specifications, reports, documentation and risk assessments; assist in bids and tenders.
* Liaise with project professionals, clients and key parties to ensure transparency.
* Conduct site inspections, oversee construction, monitor performance.
* Mentor junior engineers.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering; Chartered Engineer status or pursuit thereof.
* Extensive experience on basement, slope stability and wall retention projects.
* Business development initiative; willingness to mentor juniors.
* Strong communication and teamwork; independent work ethic, detail orientation and problem‑solving mindset.
Offshore Geotechnical Engineer – Long‑Term Contract
* Plan offshore site investigations (CPT, boreholes).
* Analyse soil data; derive shear strength, stiffness.
* Prepare GIRs and FDRs.
* Support foundation design (piles, suction caissons, shallow foundations).
* Perform pile analysis and installation feasibility.
* Assist in FEED and detailed design; ensure ISO, API, DNV standards compliance.
* Manage risks, HAZID/HAZOP participation, third‑party deliverable review.
* Uphold HSEQ policies and safety standards.
* Coordinate with engineering teams, report findings.
Requirements
* Proven offshore geotechnical experience with pile foundations.
* Degree in Geotechnical, Civil/Structural Engineering or similar.
* Strong technical skills in shallow foundations, CPT interpretation, soil‑structure interaction.
* Finite Element proficiency (PLAXIS or ABAQUS).
Principal Geotechnical Engineer – Mining (London)
Lead mining‑related geotechnical projects: open‑pit and underground mines, slope stability, tailings dams, ground support and dewatering strategies. Analyse geological and geotechnical data, develop advanced models, review designs, and mentor teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert advice and technical leadership.
* Lead site investigations: drilling, sampling, in‑situ testing.
* Analyse data; assess risks and inform design.
* Develop models for slope stability, tailings dams, etc.
* Design ground support and mitigation measures.
* Review and approve designs and calculations.
* Conduct peer reviews and give expert opinions.
* Mentor junior engineers and geologists.
* Collaborate with planning, operations and environmental teams.
* Stay updated on advancements and ensure compliance.
* Prepare reports, specifications and presentations.
* Represent the company at forums and client meetings.
Qualifications
* Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical/Mining Engineering or related geology.
* 12‑15 + years experience, major mining focus.
* Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer status highly desirable.
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
* Expertise with GeoStudio, FLAC, Maptek Vulcan etc.
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* London‑based; regular site visits required.
Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer – Permanent (London)
* Lead development of conceptual designs per project requirements.
* Manage design teams, represent the company, liaise with clients.
* Sign off design reports; hold a Civil Engineering BSc.
* Require full UK driving licence; Chartered Civil Engineer.
