The team…

Learning and Skills are a dynamic team within the Education, Schools and Inclusion service. We deliver learning opportunities to the most vulnerable residents in Gateshead, provide apprenticeships to over 400 businesses, and create project opportunities through external funding to help move people nearer to the labour market.

About the role…

As a Digital and Communication Officer, you'll support the development and delivery of communication and engagement activity that underpins the Council's strategic priorities and Learning and Skills strategy. You'll be involved in planning and executing marketing and PR campaigns, managing social media content, and using data and insight to create engaging communications that resonate with our audiences.

You'll work as part of the Learning and Skills team, collaborating with colleagues across services and building strong relationships with key partners to improve outcomes for local people. Your role will include supporting the delivery of a full PR and marketing service, including reputation management and service and social marketing.

You'll also be responsible for:

Updating our websites weekly with our latest course offerings.

Managing and maintaining our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.

Creating engaging videos that showcase our six service areas and over 100 courses to encourage resident enrolment.

Producing regular good news stories to be shared across our social media platforms.

Compiling and distributing our internal monthly newsletter to keep staff informed and engaged.

Coordinating our events calendar, including the planning and delivery of three large-scale events annually.

Organising and supporting our learner enrichment sessions, typically twelve per year, to enhance the learner experience.

Designing digital and printed materials to support the work of our teams and promote our services effectively.

We're looking for someone with experience in PR, marketing and digital media who can create compelling content, manage multiple tasks, and deliver projects on time. You'll need excellent communication skills, a creative mindset, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

You should have a relevant degree or professional qualification, or equivalent experience, along with good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills. A positive approach to self-development and a flexible, team-oriented attitude are essential.

You'll be paid a competitive salary £36,363 - £39,152 per annum.
