Directorate: People Services / Leaving Care TeamSalary: £37,280 - £39,862 a year Hours: 37 hours a week Contract Type: Permanent Location: The Council House Closing Date: 08 February 2025 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, efficient and pro-active Personal Advisor in the Leaving Care Service. The successful applicant will join an existing and stable team of Personal Advisors, specifically providing practical, emotional, social and financial support to young people both preparing to leave care and those who have left care to enable them to make a successful transition to adulthood and independence. Objectives of the Post To work with current legislation, the City Council's vision and the Department’s policies and procedures to provide a high-quality service to all care experienced young people who are the responsibility of Derby City Council. To utilise all support networks available to this group of young people and support and advise not only care experienced young people but those working with care experienced young people to supporting their needs as young adults. Post Requirements You must have substantial experience of direct working with vulnerable groups of young people/adults. It is desirable that you have a relevant qualification at an NVQ Level 3 or above and a commitment to personal development as well as a willingness to undertake relevant training. You will have: • Good understanding of the needs of care experienced young people and the role of the Personal Advisors in supporting them into adulthood. • Knowledge of legislation relating to this group of young people including but not limited to the Children Act 1989, Leaving Care Act 2000. • Understanding of and a commitment to consultation with service users and involving them in personal and service planning. • Knowledge of relevant safeguarding procedures for both children and adults. • Ability to prioritise workload and evaluate effectiveness against agreed personal and service targets. • Ability to produce high quality detailed plans and to contribute to assessments. • Be able to work and contribute to a wider multi agency network. • Ability to work flexibly and can work alone in the community. • Good communication and negotiation skills. • Empathetic to the needs of care experienced young people. • Ability to work as a team member, taking responsibility for managing your individual workload meeting the statutory duties of the role. • Ability to manage complex and dynamic situations; responding appropriately to the presenting needs of young people. • Driving License and use of a car for work purposes.
