Role Responsibilities: We are seeking a reliable and motivated Laboratory Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of our laboratory in Bristol. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining an efficient, well-organised, and compliant laboratory environment. The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring the lab is clean, well-stocked, and running smoothly, with opportunities to gain exposure to routine laboratory activities and develop technical skills over time. This role is well suited to an individual looking to build experience within a laboratory environment and develop practical skills in laboratory support and operations. Your responsibilities will include: Maintain a clean, safe, and organised laboratory and office environment in line with health and safety standards Safely handle and dispose of laboratory waste, including biological and chemical waste, in accordance with established procedures Monitor laboratory consumables and maintain stock levels Receive, unpack, and organise deliveries of lab and office supplies Assist with inventory tracking and ordering of reagents, consumables, and office/lab materials Ensure storage areas (including fridges, freezers, cupboards) are clean, tidy and correctly labelled Prepare basic buffers, solutions, and media under supervision (where appropriate) Wash, sterilise, and prepare glassware and lab equipment Support lab set-up for experiments and routine workflows Maintain accurate records of stock usage and routine checks Assist with documentation and compliance tasks (SOPs, checklists, lab logs) Support the wider lab team with general operational tasks as needed Development Opportunities Depending on experience and training, there may be opportunities to support routine laboratory procedures and take on increased responsibility within laboratory operations and coordination over time. You are detail-oriented and proactive, able to manage routine tasks such as cleaning, restocking consumables, organising deliveries, and supporting inventory control with consistency and care. You understand the importance of following procedures accurately, particularly in environments where health, safety, and compliance are critical. You enjoy working as part of a collaborative team and are comfortable taking responsibility for the behind-the-scenes work that enables others to perform experiments effectively. You bring a positive attitude to practical support duties and are willing to step in wherever needed to keep the lab running smoothly. You are eager to learn, open to training, and interested in developing your skills over time. Qualifications & Experience: We are open to varied backgrounds for this role but are looking for candidates who bring most of the following key, along with some desirable, skills and experiences: Key: Educated to A-level standard (or equivalent) Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Willingness to carry out practical support duties, including cleaning and stock management Ability to work reliably and independently on routine tasks Positive attitude toward teamwork and shared lab responsibilities Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment Excellent written and verbal communication Desirable: A-levels, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in Biology, Chemistry, or a related science subject.
