Management Accountant - Part time - 22.5 hours. We are delighted to be partnering with a growing and well-established group of businesses operating within the construction and technical services sector to recruit a Management Accountant.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic environment supporting two complementary businesses, offering great exposure to operational and commercial finance.
You’ll play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, strengthening controls, and providing insight to support decision-making across the group.
The Role
Reporting into the Finance Director, this position will take ownership of the day-to-day financial management across both entities, ensuring high-quality reporting and meaningful financial insight.
Key responsibilities include:
* Financial Reporting & Control
o Preparation of monthly management accounts, including P&L and balance sheet reconciliations
o Maintaining and enhancing financial controls and processes
o Ensuring effective integration and data flow between financial systems
* Project Accounting
o Monitoring project costs against budgets
o Working closely with operational teams to ensure accurate recording of purchases and subcontractor costs
o Reviewing work in progress (WIP) and managing month-end accruals
o Ensuring accurate cost allocation across projects
* Compliance & Tax
o Managing and reviewing VAT returns, including sector-specific requirements
o Overseeing PAYE liabilities and liaising with HMRC where required
o Ensuring compliance with relevant industry schemes and regulations
o Liaising with external providers in relation to payroll submissions
* Business Partnering
o Providing insight into margins, cost overruns, and contract performance
o Supporting operational and strategic decision-making
o Acting as a key finance contact for operational stakeholders
The Person
Essential:
* Previous experience in a management accounting or similar role
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues and improvement opportunities
* Excellent systems skills, including advanced Excel
* Ability to develop and improve financial processes
Desirable:
* Experience within a construction or project-based environment
* Understanding of concepts such as WIP, CIS, or project costing
* Exposure to cloud-based accounting systems (e.g. Xero)
* Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
