Role Overview:
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support teaching and learning within mainstream secondary classrooms, working alongside subject teachers and SEN professionals to guide students in achieving their full potential. Your role may involve classroom-based support, 1:1 intervention work, small group facilitation, or pastoral mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist teaching staff in delivering lessons across various subjects, ensuring student engagement and understanding.
* Provide tailored academic support to individuals or small groups of pupils, including those with SEN or EAL needs.
* Promote a positive learning environment through encouragement and behaviour support.
* Prepare resources and support lesson planning where appropriate.
* Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and support teams.
* Supervise pupils during non-teaching times such as lunch or school trips, as required.
Requirements:
* A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any subject (core subjects like English, Maths, or Science preferred).
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional, proactive mindset.
* A genuine interest in secondary education and in supporting young people to succeed.
* Some experience working with children or teenagers (paid or voluntary) is advantageous.
* An interest in supporting secondary students with additional learning needs, including SEN and EAL pupils.
* A proactive approach to learning and development, with a willingness to participate in professional training.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
