Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisor - 31342
The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We seek, embrace, and live diversity for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment.
We have two permanent roles for Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisors within the Environment and Business Directorate (E&B). These roles involve supporting the development and implementation of decarbonisation policies and regimes, advising government and stakeholders, and working on regulatory frameworks such as the UK Emissions Trading Scheme and heat network regulations.
The successful candidates will:
* Support the development of decarbonisation and energy efficiency regimes
* Contribute to technical guidance and operational advice
* Engage with government and industry stakeholders to gather views and produce technical advice
* Work on monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions and energy data
* Assist in expanding UK ETS and developing new regulations for sectors like maritime and heat networks
This varied and often reactive work requires swift responses to deadlines. The team leads UK policies on reducing industrial greenhouse gases, low-carbon clusters, and other related initiatives.
Ideal candidates will:
* Work effectively with diverse backgrounds and promote diversity issues
* Collaborate across multiple teams and specialisms
* Understand legislation and policy principles
* Be creative thinkers and effective communicators
* Have experience in data analysis and policy support
This role suits a science, engineering, or environmental sciences graduate (or equivalent experience) with an interest in policy implementation. Experience in MRV is desirable but not essential. Training and development opportunities are provided.
Location is flexible with some travel required. For more information, contact erin.priddey@environment-agency.gov.uk. The role involves interviews via MS Teams in early to mid August, including an assessment exercise.
