SSG provides temporary and supported accommodation for men aged 18+ who are experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping in Manchester. Our mission is to support individuals to rebuild their lives, improve their well-being, and transition into sustainable, independent housing.
Job Description
As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in delivering person-centered support to individuals to overcome the issues that led to their homelessness. Working closely with the Senior Support Worker, you will manage a caseload and develop tailored support plans that address each client's unique needs, with a strong emphasis on housing, health, and independence.
You will also assist with the day-to-day management of supported accommodation, ensuring a safe, supportive environment and acting as the first point of contact during your shift.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and regularly review personalised support plans in collaboration with service users.
* Support residents in improving their mental and physical health, life skills, and readiness for independent living.
* Engage with external agencies to signpost clients to relevant services including mental health, substance misuse, benefits, and tenancy support.
* Monitor and support service users' personal financial contributions and maximise their access to benefits (e.g. Universal Credit, Housing Benefit).
* Identify and address housing management issues in collaboration with the wider team.
* Conduct regular health and safety checks and ensure adherence to SSG's policies and procedures.
* Maintain accurate, confidential case records using internal systems.
* Provide general administrative support to Senior Support Workers and Service Managers as needed.
* Report daily activities and developments to the Senior Support Worker.
* Ensure all work is compliant with GDPR and SSG's standards, policies, and safeguarding protocols.
* Represent SSG positively, delivering excellent customer service to residents, visitors, and partner organisations.

Essential Skills & Abilities:
Communication - Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with clients, colleagues, and partner agencies, both verbally and in writing.
Interpersonal Skills - Empathy, active listening, and the ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Organisation - Able to manage a caseload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
Problem Solving - Ability to think creatively and proactively resolve issues, particularly in crisis situations.
Record Keeping - Competent in maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential records.
IT Skills - Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and case management systems.
Accountability - To work within and comply to SSG Policies & Procedures
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Education - GCSE English and Maths at grade A–C (or equivalent).
Experience - Previous experience supporting vulnerable people (e.g. homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, etc) in a work based or other capacity.
Safeguarding - Understanding of adult and child safeguarding principles and procedures.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
Additional Qualifications - Trauma-Informed Approach Training
Knowledge - Understanding of welfare benefits, and local homelessness services.
Approaches - Familiarity with impact assessments, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing.
Driving - Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
