This IT Cyber Security Engineer will report to the Cyber Security Engineering Lead and will work within the Information Systems directorate based in our Crawley office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £60,550.00 and a bonus of 7.5%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose
The Cyber Security IT Engineer will evaluate all security solution technologies and toolsets and help develop the security systems within the organisation. They will ensure that UK Power Networks data, network, and systems are protected from cyber threats and comply with relevant standards and regulations. They will also provide technical support to other security team professionals and partners.
Dimensions
UK Power Networks is expanding its presence in Microsoft Azure and enhancing its on-prem OT Mission Critical Systems. It is important to develop a secure environment for hosting and managing our critical information assets. The candidate should have a blend of cyber security skills including solution design, implementation, operation, governance, change management, and data protection using relevant encryption standards. Success is measured by maintaining regulatory compliance and improving technical and organisational resilience against cyber threats.

* Suppliers – interact with third-party service providers, technical consultants, and cyber security vendors.
* Communicate technical concepts clearly across different levels of the organization.
* Stakeholders – build and maintain relationships with technology teams, providers, and partners to enhance security outcomes.
Principal Accountabilities
* Ensure safety standards are upheld.
* Implement cyber security plans and technology roadmaps aligned with best practices and company strategy.
* Research new security technologies and solutions for enterprise and cloud infrastructures.
* Partner with vendors to design and evaluate proof of concept (PoC) solutions.
* Evaluate existing security solutions for effectiveness and fit.
* Support installation and configuration of security systems like firewalls, endpoint protection, encryption, VPN, SIEM, PAM, VM, etc.
* Lead root cause analysis of security incidents to prevent recurrence and strengthen controls.
* Provide technical guidance on security controls implementation.
* Establish relationships with partners to support security measures and improvements.
Nature And Scope
The team supports UK Power Networks’ goal to be the best performing DNO by providing innovative technology solutions and security. You will work across multiple disciplines to implement and improve security infrastructure, systems, and services.
Qualifications
* Experience in cyber security, preferably in security engineering or architecture roles, with hands-on experience in implementing and maintaining security solutions.
* Understanding of cyber security principles and standards such as encryption, authentication, network and application security, cloud security, and threat intelligence.
* Proficiency with security technologies like firewalls, endpoint protection, intrusion detection/prevention, vulnerability scanners, VPNs, SIEMs, etc., including configuration and troubleshooting.
* Knowledge of security frameworks such as Cyber Essentials, ISO27001:2022, CSA CCM, NCSC CAF, GDPR.
* Programming and scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.) for automation and testing.
* Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and mitigate security risks.
* Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, CEH, SSCP, CCSP) and technical certifications in cloud, networking, or security products are advantageous.
* Technical capabilities in areas like VPNs, networking, operating systems, virtualization, cloud security, and security products.
* Experience with products like Proofpoint, Exchange Online, Microsoft Defender, Azure, Sentinel, QRadar, Darktrace, etc.
