Principal Environmental (EIA) Consultant - London and South East

Join to apply for the Principal Environmental (EIA) Consultant - London and South East role at WSP.

We are looking for a Senior level environmental professional to support our Environmental Management and Assessment Team in the London or South East Teams (London, Cambridge, Guildford, Reading, Basingstoke and Southampton). Our portfolio spans sectors such as energy, aviation, nuclear, rail, property and Local Government. The role involves environmental design, assessment and management across the development project lifecycle.

As a Principal EIA Consultant within WSP’s Environmental Assessment and Management team, you will lead environmental teams and inputs to project designs and assessments, working with technical environmental specialists and design teams across multiple sectors, to improve environmental performance and deliver sustainable outcomes.

The role covers a broad range of sectors including rail, highways, energy and commercial/residential, from feasibility through planning, detailed design, construction and handover/maintenance. You will have responsibility for leading projects, including tasks related to bidding, project team management, project delivery, and financial management.


Responsibilities

* Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
* Collaborating with diverse environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement
* Leading large, complex projects with oversight of technical quality, commercial aspects and health and safety
* Building client relationships and identifying opportunities in resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery
* Developing new client relationships and marketing services, including presenting at conferences on behalf of WSP
* Undertaking activities to secure new work, including complex opportunities, strategic bids and framework opportunities
* Leading or contributing to development of innovative techniques (e.g., Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA)
* Driving performance improvement and career advancement across the team
* Promoting team culture and acting as a go-to person for problem solving and achieving goals
* Promoting an inclusive workplace with attention to health and safety and the company values
* Contributing to the success of the WSP business strategy with self-motivation toward role- and project-related goals


What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

* A relevant environmental degree in EIA or similar
* Chartered Environmental Status and Full membership of IEMA, or equivalent professional qualification
* Excellent experience of EIA and EIA processes with ability to work with limited supervision within multi-disciplinary teams
* Knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and attention to detail
* Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., rail, highways, energy, commercial/residential)
* Comprehensive project management skills including commercial and risk management, forecasting and quality assurance
