The Forensic Services at St Bernard's Hospital, located on the Ealing site in London, include various specialist areas such as Women's and Men's services at both low and medium security levels. The successful candidate will join an established Occupational Therapy team, working alongside experienced and dynamic professionals.
Our wider Occupational Therapy team comprises occupational therapists, assistants, activity coordinators, and Recovery Support workers. You will receive professional supervision and support from the Clinical Lead Band 7 OT to deliver occupational therapy within Specialist Forensic Community services.
As a Band 6 specialist practitioner and Senior OT, you will be operationally aware of the team's, service users', and clinical teams' needs. You will liaise with OTs across different service areas as service users transition into the community.
You should be familiar with the local community, which includes the eight surrounding boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Kensington & Chelsea, and Westminster, organized within three hubs: EHH, BHH, and KCW.
Main duties of the job
1. You will manage a clinical caseload and provide in-reach activities and community-based interventions to support inpatient transitions. These interventions will focus on developing skills such as social skills, life skills, goal setting, and management of work, education, and leisure activities.
2. This role offers opportunities to develop skills in assessment, case formulation, and goal setting, using models like the Vona Du Toit Model of Creative Ability, for which training will be provided.
3. You will contribute to clinical pathways that facilitate service users' movement from acute wards to rehabilitation and community living, emphasizing occupational performance skills for recovery readiness.
4. You will play a key role in referring service users to work roles and supporting their qualifications, skills development, and employment or educational pursuits, utilizing the IPS model (Individual Placement Scheme).
5. Supervision of students is expected, with a minimum of two students per year, though the service hosts numerous placements.
