Overview
SWROCU Southern Hub, located near Newton Abbott, Devon, is seeking a DC to work alongside the regional undercover unit and manage sensitive product, with forces within the region and across the wider UK to target the highest‑harm offenders that seek to cause harm to children.
Responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to pro‑actively investigate those identified as posing a risk to children through online platforms; specifically, where offences have been secured against identified subjects the post holder will be tasked to investigate from start to finish, developing arrest strategies, ensuring the timely examination of seized devices, navigating custody processes, submitting case files, liaising with the CPS and attending court.
Effective communication with officers, staff and partners around the region and UK is key to this role.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
* The case officer must be a DC with an investigative background, preferably within a criminal investigation department, child abuse unit or online investigation team; applications from staff in other roles where proven investigative skills can be demonstrated are welcomed.
* Current SCAIDP (Specialist Child Abuse Investigation Development Programme) accreditation, or willingness to complete this as part of development with the team.
* The case officer is a SWROCU officer, outside the undercover unit, but working with a team including an intelligence officer, line managed by the Deputy Operations Lead and under the management of the Operations Lead.
* A thorough awareness of current legal issues and guidelines relevant to disclosure, offences under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, other relevant offences and amendments; responsibility for child abuse and safeguarding procedures such as those set out in "Working Together to Safeguard Children" and related publications.
* Flexible approach to work; may be required to brief SIOs, Senior Officers and the Senior Management Team.
* Core hours are Monday to Friday; flexibility expected across weekends where demand dictates. The Operations Lead reserves the right to consider alternative working patterns to maintain operational resilience.
