Pet Welfare Assistant (Off site) – Blue Cross UK


Job details

* Department: Rehoming & Fostering Services
* Location: Sheffield
* Compensation: £23,993 per year
* Contract: Permanent, Full time
* Closing date: Wednesday 24th September 2025

What the role involves

* Offsite animal care within our Rehoming & Fostering team in Sheffield.
* Manage the care of pets in offsite services, including fostering or Home Direct arrangements.
* Ensure welfare standards are met and rehabilitation plans are followed and supported for pets in foster homes.
* Assess pets preparing for a new home in offsite services to support timely rehoming outcomes.
* Provide high-quality customer service as the public face of Blue Cross at our centres.
* Work full time on a rota that includes weekends and public holidays.


About you

The person will be empathetic, intuitive, and focused on animal welfare, with experience in a similar environment. You should be able to assess pet needs, recognise behavioural signs, and have a basic understanding of medications such as flea treatments and diabetes management. You are self-motivated, collaborative, and able to develop practical solutions for the best care outcomes. Strong communication skills, resilience, and emotional intelligence are essential to support clients and colleagues.


Knowledge, skills, and experience

* Experience of having previously worked or volunteered with domestic animals or in an animal welfare environment.
* Experience recording information accurately and communicating clearly with others.
* Experience in a customer-focused environment with a track record of high customer satisfaction.
* Good organisational and administration skills, including computer systems.
* A full driving licence.
* Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply Blue Cross values.

Desirable:

* Qualification or experience in animal behaviour or animal training.
* Experience of cash handling.
* Experience working to health and safety procedures.
* Understanding of safeguarding issues.
