Description The Service & Team: The Development Management team is the statutory decision-making function of the Local Planning Authority. It includes teams responsible for making decisions on all planning applications, planning enforcement, and planning appeals. Our purpose is to improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of our communities by managing development to support the creation of quality places, jobs, homes and infrastructure. This is achieved through proactive pre-application engagement, sound and timely decisions made through the application of policy, laws and regulations, engagement of the local community and close working relationships with colleagues in Planning and Housing to develop the strategic policies and direction to support this. The Role: The Roles are based within our Area Teams where you will have the opportunity to manage your own diverse caseload whilst collaborating with a range of consultees and stakeholders. This will include processing all types of planning applications including registration/validation, consultation, site visits, negotiations and report writing. We are a ambitious and friendly team and we will provide a supportive environment with plenty of development, training and mentorship opportunities. We are looking for positive, enthusiastic, self motivated individuals who are keen to learn and able to manage their own time successfully. This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. What you’ll need to succeed: Be an entry level professional, qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. Have a basic understanding of legislation, technical, and key policy issues underpinning Development Management. Have an ability to follow straightforward development management team policy and practice. Possess a strong customer focus and ability to work with a range of stakeholders. Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills. Have good report writing skills. Be capable of processing a significant volume of work with speed and a high degree of accuracy. An ability to effectively manage and prioritise your own workloads, in pressurised situations, Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. The normal duties of the role will involve travel on a regular or occasional basis. It is a condition of employment that the role holder must hold a valid driving licence and ability to travel throughout Cornwall. Working Pattern: These are full time, permanent roles.
