We are recruiting a Youth Support & Mental Health Assistant to join a supportive and nurturing alternative provision in Cardiff, working closely with pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis. About the Provision Calm, safe, and nurturing learning environment Supports pupils across the local authority Small class sizes (typically no more than 10 pupils) High staff-to-pupil ratio Friendly, experienced, and supportive team Ongoing mentoring and professional development Team Teach training provided during half-term The Role Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with: Mental health needs Emotional and behavioural difficulties Additional learning needs (ALN / SEN) Support classroom staff with behaviour management strategies Help pupils build confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment Offer firm but fair guidance, setting clear boundaries with empathy Ideal Candidate Experience is desirable but not essential. This role is well suited to candidates with a background in: Mental health or wellbeing support Youth work Care or residential care Healthcare or support roles Sports coaching or mentoring You will also have: A genuine passion for supporting children and young people Strong communication and interpersonal skills A calm, patient, and resilient approach Ability to work effectively as part of a team Willingness to complete required training No formal qualifications required – ideal for those new to education.
