CGI are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with proven experience in the space, SATCOM, or defence domain to support the development of next-generation space capabilities, in both commercial and defence programmes.
The successful candidate will lead systems engineering activities across the full design lifecycle, from requirements capture and analysis through to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and validation activities (FAT, SAT). They will play a critical role in bridging customer requirements, technical solutions, and delivery teams, ensuring that complex space and communications systems are delivered to specification, on time, and within budget.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Design
* Own and manage the end-to-end systems engineering process for assigned projects.
* Lead requirements capture, analysis, allocation, and management across subsystems.
* Drive the system through formal design gates including SRR, PDR, CDR, FAT, SAT
* Ensure traceability of requirements throughout the lifecycle and compliance with project and customer standards.
System Development & Integration
* Develop system-level architectures and interface definitions for satellite communications networks, ground systems, and mission-critical infrastructures.
* Perform system modelling, trade studies, and design analyses to inform architecture choices.
* Support integration, verification, validation, and transition-to-operations activities.
* Act as a technical authority, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical review boards.
Technical Leadership
* Work with multidisciplinary teams (network engineers, software developers, mission operators) to ensure cohesive technical delivery.
* Engage with commercial and defence customers to capture needs, present solutions, and gain buy-in at formal reviews.
* Contribute to bids and proposals by defining engineering approaches, resource estimates, and technical content.
Security & Compliance
* Support role-based access control (RBAC), secure file handling, and HTTPS-based communication into the system architecture.
* Ensure compliance with aerospace security frameworks and OneWeb/CGI enterprise security policies.
Project & Stakeholder Management
* Work with multidisciplinary teams (network engineers, software developers, mission operators) to ensure cohesive technical delivery.
* Engage with commercial and defence customers to capture needs, present solutions, and gain buy-in at formal reviews.
* Contribute to bids and proposals by defining engineering approaches, resource estimates, and technical content
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
Essential:
* Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in the space, SATCOM, or defence sector.
* Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering across the full lifecycle, including:
* Strong knowledge of satellite communications systems (space and ground segments), architectures, and operations.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
* Requirements management (DOORS, Jama, or equivalent).
* Design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).
* Verification and validation (FAT, SAT, integration testing).
Desirable:
* Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, or Defence-related discipline.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
* Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and approaches (SysML, Cameo, Capella).
* Experience working on both commercial satellite programmes and MoD/defence projects.
* Knowledge of mission assurance, safety, and reliability engineering in aerospace.
