Job Title: Electrical Technical Inspector

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £48,551.00 per annum

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday, Hybrid


The difference you will make

The Electrical Technical Inspector is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of electrical safety and compliance across Riverside’s housing stock. You conduct technical inspections and compliance audits of electrical installations, including alternative technology systems, and verify that all works meet statutory regulations and Riverside’s quality standards, safeguarding residents and properties. Key duties include audits of EICR activity, installations, rewires, voids, refurbishment/upgrade, PPM and repairs, and ensuring compliance with BS 7671 and NICEIC standards.


About you

* NICEIC Registration Electrical Qualifying Supervisor eligibility
* City and Guilds 2391 – Inspection and Testing, or equivalent
* Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services or equivalent
* City and Guilds 2382‑22 (or equivalent) BS 7671 (Latest Edition)
* Proven experience in EICR activity, installation, rewires, voids, refurbishment/upgrade, PPM and repairs
* Strong knowledge of electrical regulations and standards
* Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Good time management, planning and organisational skills
* Proficient with IT systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, auditing software)
* Full UK Driving Licence
* Proven track record of electrical management in a mixed economy DLO/contractor social housing context
* Health and Safety qualifications IOSH/SMSTS/SSSTS
* Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation: Solar PV, Battery Storage, Wind Turbines and CHP
* Level 4 Certificate in Electrical Safety Management in Social Housing
* Professional Membership of a relevant industry body (e.g., IET)


Role Responsibilities

* Ensure Electrical Safety Compliance by verifying EICR activity, installations, rewires, voids, refurbishment/upgrade, PPM and repairs are aligned with legislation, requirements and Riverside’s policies.
* Plan and perform regular quality control audits and technical inspections on completed works.
* Monitor performance of in‑house electricians and external contractors to ensure compliance with best practices and safety standards.
* Document inspection findings and compliance issues in detailed reports; analyse trends and work with management to address them.
* Act as a technical expert in electrical compliance and safety; keep abreast of regulations and emerging best practices; share knowledge and recommend improvements.
* Conduct inspections, testing and certification of electrical installations; audit EICRs and other certification documents.
* Perform random post‑service and post‑repair quality checks; produce clear audit reports listing defects or non‑compliances.
* Liaise with contractors, the electrical team, and stakeholders to explain findings and agree remedial actions.
* Track and monitor compliance performance; update management on compliance status.
* Assist in reviewing and developing electrical safety policies, procedures and guidance documents.
* Ensure compliance with the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Amendment) Regulations 2022.
* Support training and toolbox talks by providing technical guidance or briefings.
* Collaborate with the Domestic Electrical Manager on incident investigations or complaints.
* Investigate and resolve complaints; respond to customers within service standards and share lessons learned.
* Represent the service at residents’ meetings when required.
* Participate in out‑of‑hours rota for repairs and maintenance services on a regular basis.
