About Tornado

For over 50 years, Tornado has led the way in quality fencing across the agricultural, equestrian, forestry, and infrastructure sectors. Born from a fencing contracting business, we bring a unique understanding of fencing performance. Our commitment to quality, teamwork, integrity, and innovation continues to drive our evolution and dedication to sustainable practices.

Our Core Values:

* Quality is king – only the best is good enough.
* Do the right thing – honesty, integrity, and fairness.
* Teamwork gets it done – we achieve more together.
* Innovation never ends – a pioneering spirit keeps us ahead.
* Safer for people and planet – safety and sustainability are non-negotiable.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Logistics & Site Services Manager to lead our logistics function and ensure it runs smoothly. This is an important role in our operations: you'll drive efficiency in warehousing, distribution, and stock management while also overseeing facilities and contractor management to keep our site safe, compliant, and fit for the future.

With responsibility for a £1.5m operating budget and £5m of stock, you'll bring experience from manufacturing or industrial settings and apply best practice to deliver excellent service for our customers and colleagues.

This is a site-based role in Millom. Being on site is essential to lead your team, understand our processes, and keep things running effectively. We know flexibility matters, so we'll work with you to accommodate personal commitments where possible. If you're seriously considering relocating, we can provide support to help you and your family settle in.

Key Responsibilities

Logistics Leadership

* Lead and develop the logistics and warehouse team at Millom, setting clear standards and providing visible, supportive leadership.
* Manage the cost-effective selection and performance of UK and international hauliers, working closely with sales to deliver reliable, efficient distribution.
* Oversee raw materials logistics and goods flow into production, ensuring minimal disruption and effective stock rotation.
* Maintain robust inventory control and reporting, with a focus on stock accuracy and working capital efficiency.
* Support the planning and oversight of Tornado's Scottish warehouse and 3rd party stockists in Ireland.
* Champion continuous improvement, deploying best practice in warehousing, distribution, and logistics processes.

Site Services & Facilities

* Manage internal and external site service providers to ensure buildings, services, and infrastructure are well maintained.
* Plan and oversee site repairs, maintenance, and contractor activity, ensuring compliance with HSE standards.
* Support the QHSE Manager in waste and recycling management across the site.
* Lead and coordinate site service projects (e.g. new installations, upgrades, refurbishments) ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

About You

You have experience leading logistics or warehousing teams in a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment. You know what "good" looks like in logistics, and you're ready to bring that knowledge to Tornado, helping us improve efficiency while keeping service levels high.

You'll also bring the practical mindset needed to keep a busy manufacturing site running smoothly: managing contractors, keeping facilities in good order, and ensuring our site supports safe, efficient operations.

Above all, you're a visible and approachable leader who builds confidence and accountability in your team and enjoys working closely with colleagues on site to make things happen.

Essential:

* Experience of leading logistics/warehousing teams in a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial business
* A "safety first approach"
* Strong people management skills with experience of leading teams and setting clear standards
* Commercial awareness. You are able to manage budgets, supplier contracts, and deliver cost efficiency
* Strong organisational skills, with a methodical approach to process improvement and problem solving
* Comfortable with systems and data, able to use ERP/WMS to support decision making
* Confident managing facilities, contractors, and site services in a busy operational setting
* Willing and able to work on site in Millom full-time

Desirable:

* Exposure to Lean, continuous improvement, or similar operational excellence tools
* IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent health & safety knowledge
* Facilities management or site services qualification (helpful but not essential)
* Forklift or other relevant licences

We encourage applications from candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. If you meet most but not all of the criteria, we'd still like to hear from you.

The Benefits

* Competitive salary of £45–50k plus company bonus scheme
* Strategic and operational scope. The chance to shape both logistics and site services in a growing UK manufacturer
* Career development – opportunity to influence the future of Tornado's operations, with training and progression
* Inclusive culture – Investors in People Gold certified, with employee recognition and wellbeing initiatives
* Stability – an established and successful business, with strong investment in people and site development
* Quality of life – work at the edge of the Lake District National Park, with access to world-class scenery, outdoor activities, and a welcoming local community
* Relocation support – we'll help you and your family settle in if you're seriously considering moving from further afield
* Core hours – Monday to Friday, core hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
* Holiday & pension – 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays, company pension scheme, and life insurance cover (3x salary)
