Hill McGlynn is proud to be partnering with a well-established and growing regional main contractor in the construction sector, currently looking to appoint a commercially astute Finance Manager or Finance Director to join their senior leadership team based in Tunbridge Wells.
This is a key strategic hire for the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the company’s financial operations, contribute to executive decision-making, and support continued business growth across a wide portfolio of construction projects.
The Role:
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee all aspects of the finance function, from day-to-day accounting through to long-term financial planning and reporting. This is a hands-on role with real influence, suitable for an experienced finance professional looking to take on a senior leadership position within a dynamic and growing contractor.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
* Manage monthly and year-end accounts and reporting
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards and HMRC regulations
* Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial risk
* Lead and manage the finance team and external accountants
* Provide strategic financial advice to the board and project teams
* Support commercial and operational decisions with financial analysis
* Liaise with banks, insurers, and auditors as required
Ideal Candidate Profile:
* Proven experience as a Finance Manager or Finance Director, ideally within the construction or contracting sector
* Strong working knowledge of UK accounting practices and construction finance
* Hands-on experience with job costing, project accounting, and cash flow forecasting
* ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or QBE with relevant experience)
* Commercially aware and confident working at board level
* Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
