About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Practice Nurse to join a well‑established, forward‑thinking GP practice located in Newcastle upon Tyne. As a key member of the clinical team, you will provide proactive nursing services, manage long‑term conditions, deliver immunisation programmes, and contribute to the continuous development of primary care services.
Practice Profile
* Urban, mixed‑demographic GP practice serving approximately 13,000–15,000 registered patients
* Multi‑professional team including GPs, ANPs, HCAs, pharmacists, mental health practitioners, social prescribers, and physiotherapists
* Modern premises with fully equipped clinical rooms
* EMIS Web clinical system
* Strong focus on accessibility, continuity of care, and preventive health
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
* Deliver nurse‑led clinics for asthma, COPD, hypertension, CHD, diabetes, and other long‑term conditions
* Provide childhood and adult immunisations, including flu and travel vaccines
* Perform cervical cytology screening in line with national guidelines
* Undertake wound assessment, treatment, dressings, and suture/staple removal
* Conduct NHS Health Checks and opportunistic health promotion
* Carry out phlebotomy, ECGs, spirometry (if accredited), and BP monitoring
* Support management of minor illnesses and triage where appropriate
* Provide treatment room services such as ear irrigation and basic contraception checks
Professional Responsibilities
* Maintain accurate, high‑quality patient records using EMIS Web
* Work collaboratively within the wider MDT to deliver safe and effective patient care
* Adhere to infection control standards and vaccine handling protocols
* Participate in practice audits, QOF activity, and quality improvement programmes
* Maintain NMC registration and engage in ongoing CPD
* Contribute to safeguarding processes for children and adults
* Uphold practice policies, clinical governance, and evidence‑based practice
Person Specification
Essential
* Registered Nurse (NMC) with current PIN
* Previous primary care experience or equivalent transferable clinical skills
* Competence in immunisations, cytology, wound care, and chronic disease management
* Confident in autonomous practice and clinical decision‑making
* Strong communication, organisational, and documentation skills
* Commitment to patient‑centred care and reducing health inequalities
Desirable
* Chronic disease qualifications (Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, CHD)
* Mentorship qualification (SLIP, supervision training, or equivalent)
* Experience with EMIS Web
* Travel health training
* Spirometry accreditation
Working Pattern
* Full‑time or part‑time considered
* Flexibility required for seasonal demands (e.g., flu clinics)
* Occasional extended‑hours sessions as part of local primary care network commitments
